Ben Hall drove away to a commanding win last night at the Speedway City and SA Speedcars season opener, defeating Graham Knuckey and Jamie Crouch for round one of the American Tire & Racing Services Speedcar Club Championship!
This was the first outing for the Speedcars in South Australia for season 2015/2016 and our 80th year of competition; which saw the return of some old favourites, including Tim Caddy in the S16, Graham Knuckey in the S11 and Darryl Knuckey guesting in the Harrington S6! A welcome addition was the S10 Rick McKay machine with Sprintcar competitor Luke Bowey having his first stint in a Speedcar!
With 3 competitors on equal points heading into the feature event, Hall was fortunate to pull pole position after a three-way marble draw beside Brett Ireland, followed by Jamie Crouch and Graham Knuckey, Tim Caddy, Darryl Knuckey, Luke Bowey and Norm Moore . After one fast but false start, the field regrouped for a full start with Hall taking the lead from Knuckey and Ireland.
Hall sped ahead of the pack as a good battle developed further back in the pack, coming to fruition as a lapped car came into play. While Hall and Graham Knuckey slipped by; Ireland was caught, allowing Darryl Knuckey and Crouch to get back on his tail! Ireland moved to the highline in an attempt to get by, but got caught out in the marbles, allowing Darryl Knuckey and Crouch into 3rd and 4th!
Ben Hall went on to take the win a few laps later from Graham Knuckey and Jamie Crouch, who slipped past Darryl Knuckey on the final lap! Brett Ireland took 5th place followed by Tim Caddy, Luke Bowey and Norm Moore.
Heat wins were claimed by Brett Ireland, his first ever in the Speedcar division, and Jamie Crouch. Hall also notches this win as his first in TheSpeedwayShop.com's Speedcar Jackpot!
