Jamie Crouch last night, not only took out his first feature win of the season; but also round two of the SA Speedcars Blackjack Series at Speedway City ahead of Todd Bennett and Todd Wigzell!
Having qualified from pole after a heat win and a third, Crouch lined up alongside Nathan Squiers on the front row, followed by Todd Bennett and Brett Ireland in row two; and Todd Wigzell and Graham Knuckey in the third row.
Crouch took the best line into turn one in his Strathfield Motors SA7, under heavy pressure from Bennett, Squiers and Wigzell; whilst Ireland moved up high on the track and eventually retired from the event having experienced issues with his Esslinger powered machine. Crouch subsequently gained the upperhand, leaving the trio behind him to battle it out over the next few laps, with Bennett claiming 2nd position followed by Wigzell and Squiers who continued to fight for third over the remainder of the race!
Mark Harrington, who rolled in the second heat started further back in the field and after clearing the 2nd pack of competitors, spent the closing laps chasing down Wigzell and Squiers but ran out of laps to make any serious challenges, finishing in 5th place. Harrington was followed home by Whyalla Formula 500 racer Angelo Karoussis in the McKay S10 in his first Midget race in South Australia (having already raced in WA); and Tim Caddy who made a very welcome return to the track recently in his Agars Industrial S16. Heat wins were taken by Jamie Crouch and Nathan Squiers.
With his dominating win, Jamie Crouch has also taken over the lead in the SA Blackjack Series! Crouch leads from Bennett by a mere 10 points, followed by Wigzell, NSW's Mark Brown, who claimed the opening round; and Graham Knuckey who sits in 5th place. With two more rounds still to be held, the series remains anyone's game!
The Speedcars head to Murray Bridge Speedway next Saturday night for round six of the American Tire & Racing Services Club Championship.
