Leading the 'Queenslander' charge into South Australia on January 10th & 11th for the Enzed 73rd Australian Speedcar Championship is current POWRi Speedcar Super Series (SSS) leader, Brett Thomas!
Having already claimed round three of the SSS and round six of the Queensland Polar Ice Series; Thomas is considered one of Queensland's strongest contenders for the title in his Illuminated Industries Q69 Spike/Hawk.
"It's my first full season in Speedcars and I'm loving it. It's a massive change from Sprintcars" said Thomas from Queensland. "We've really enjoyed all the different tracks we've raced at and are looking forward to racing the Aussie title at Speedway City for the first time".
Thomas will also compete at a number of shows down the East coast in the lead up to the event, including the sought after Australian Speedcar Grand Prix (AGP) at Nowra Speedway, NSW; and the Victorian Title at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, VIC.
"Our goal is to be competive every time we hit the track" explained Thomas on his plans for the next fortnight. "I have a great crew and my crew chief, Matt Black, works full time in our race shed. He comes from V8 Supercars and last year was crew chief for Todd Wanless".
Other Queensland contenders also include local favourite Anthony Chaffey, Scott Wilson and American Alex Bright in Jack Berry's Q29.
"There's plenty of tough competition for the title with the likes of Adam Clarke and ten or so more; but however they all have two arms and legs so we will see how we go!"
The Enzed 73rd Australian Speedcar Championship kicks off at Speedway City Virginia, South Australia on Friday 10th for qualifying and Saturday 11th for the main event decider!
